Friends of the Shelter Dogs
Task
Created branding, logo, and vafrious mockups
In this project, we discovered some elements along the way that challenged our abilities as designers. While “challenges” sounds negative, they helped us to better our craft and make sure the project was suitable for our client’s needs and real-world application.
The main challenge we came across was simply time. When initially meeting with our client, we surmised that they needed a few things, but most of them were centered around branding. We considered the hierarchy of needs for the client and decided that logo was the primary element needed, as well as a brand guide. We then decided that this brand guide would be helpful for whoever is in charge of the organization’s social media and website, and they would be able to easily pull assets from it.
After we had the logo and brand guide established, we were then able to use the remainder of our time working on merchandise ideas, marketing development, and even a website mockup. Overall, by having the time constraints of a semester-long project, it allowed us to learn more about time management and client needs.
The experience of this project was overwhelmingly positive, and we learned a lot about how to work with clients and understand and create designs that work for their needs. We started by reviewing the content that the Friends of the Shelter Dogs already had, and figured out what elements needed changing. We established a brand feeling, color palette, and font choices, all while working on crafting various logos and branding elements. Once we landed on our logo, we were able to use it as a jumping off point to create more for the client, such as merchandise and website mockups.
