Something challenging I faced during this project was finding a cohesive, expanded color palette, that contrasted properly for both print and web, and also contained a variety of color combinations. I found that colors looked very different when they were next to each other in swatches versus on top of and surrounding each other on a page. There were many times I had to slightly tweak each color to properly contrast its surroundings. 

Another challenge I faced was finding a primary typeface for the branding package. In the early meetings, my client and I had come to an agreement on a font to use for the primary text, and after an unfortunate series of events we were not able to access it. I had decided to go with my next best option, 8 heavy. This was the typeface I believed resembled the original one we chose the most. It was frustrating not being able to accomplish something that the team had felt strongly on, but in the end I believe that the typeface we ended up using captures the organizations playfulness perfectly. 

Working on my first project with a client was both exciting and challenging. It was exciting to see how the design process differs from the courses I’ve taken to the professional design world. I was lucky to work with a client who allowed me creative freedom and trust that helped me to create the best possible end product.

Through this experience I learned how to balance a clients feedback with my own design instincts, making sure I met their expectations while staying true to the design principles I had learned as well as staying consistent with the chosen style.

This process started out with curating a selection of inspiration photos that resembled the new aesthetic for the brand. After discussing and coming to an agreement with my client, I started with creating the new webpage. Using their old website as a base, I added the text to each page and began to play around with colors, layouts, and most importantly, the photos.

I experimented with different styles and filters for each photo and ended up choosing a grain texture with a solid color overlayed to create a bold, unique look that attracted attention. After countless hours spent finalizing the web design, I was able to build off of the new look to create flyers that fit in with the branding guidelines.
